With many of us spending months in quarantine, unable to access a hairdresser this year, we’ve had to resort to looking after our hair ourself. Home coloring and cutting have become a necessity for many people, and naturally, that involves a lot of new products and tools you may not have used previously. Today I’m going to share with you some of the top hair care tips and hair trends we have seen so far this year, to help keep your hair in the best condition possible.
Scalp Scrubs
Good hair starts with your scalp, and this year we have seen an increase in products on the market specifically targeting your scalp. Using a scalp scrub every week or two will help improve the health of your scalp and therefore your hair. Try to find one with Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) in, as these help to reduce the build-up of product on your scalp. If you do suffer from a dry scalp, coconut hair oil can help minimize dryness.

Hair extensions
Hair extensions have become really popular again over the last few years, with many salons offering this service. It can be tough for some people to grow their hair long, so it’s no surprise this can become such a popular hair trend. There are now hair care products available specifically for people who use extensions, to help care for and detangle their hair.
Hair vitamins and supplements
If you go to any health or beauty store nowadays, you will be bombarded with a wide choice of vitamins and supplements. Many of these are now specifically targeting good hair and skin. Products such as Hum Nutrition’s Hair Sweet Hair contain biotin and folic acid, which when taken regularly can result in stronger, healthier hair. Alternatively, you can drink a collagen powder which claim to grow glossy and stronger hair, as well as look after your skin and nails.
Silk pillows
Silk pillows are one of the best hair care tips, and it’s something that not many people consider. You spend hours a day in bed, so look after your hair even when you are asleep. As cotton pillowcases absorb your hair’s moisture, they can result in split ends and breakages. On the other hand, silk pillows will reduce morning bed hair and can even help with facial wrinkles.

Short haircuts
Once people were able to return to the hairdressers, one of the most noticeable hair trends this year has been shorter cuts, such as bobs. So many people found they’d had enough of managing long hair by themselves, and so went for a short cut! If you have the right hair texture, bobs or above shoulder cuts can be extremely hassle-free and manageable.
With a few months left of 2020, it will be interesting to see what new trends we experience before the end of the year. For many people, it’s been a year of experimentation, with bold new colors and haircuts. What has been your favorite hair trend this year? Let me know in the comments below!
